PROGRAMS and SERVICES
Buyers' Club                                                                                       The "Health" Perspective
The buyers' club offers products which focus on managing the symptoms of HIV disease and the side effects of HIV medications.  The buyers' club stocks more than 450 nutritional supplements and non-prescription medications including vitamins and minerals, protein supplements, and herbal therapies that are sold at non-profit prices to reduce the financial barriers to integrative health care.

Common Ground                                                                                  The "Faith" Perspective
Common Ground provides daily spiritual, emotional, and practical support in a community setting.  This day program provides services every week, Monday through Friday, which includes formal educational and inspirational presentations by guest speakers, a nutritious lunch, individual social work consultations, and periodic group recreational opportunities.

 Thrive! Workshops                                                                            The "Health" Perspective
Thrive! is a free interactive workshop led by men and women living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.  Thrive! promotes individual self empowerment through education, mental health education, and peer-based psychosocial support.  The Thrive! curriculum recognizes that deliberate choices, decisions, and commitments are key to living well. Thrive! does not prescribe one particular plan of action.  The peer-driven workshop provides the resources and support to improve self-efficacy so that individuals are confident and informed in their decision making.

Faithful Care                                                                                         The "Faith" Perspective
Faithful Care is an in-home respite program that provides practical secondary support thorough appropriately trained care teams for adults who are home bound with HIV/AIDS, especially those who live alone and/or have limited access to care.  AAFH's professional staff also provide in-home nutritional assessments, mental health counseling, and social services coordination.

Massage Therapy                                                                              The "Health" Perspective
The Massage Therapy program provides volunteer massage therapists who offer free therapeutic massage to HIV-positive individuals.  Numerous studies have shown that massage offers several benefits to people living with HIV/AIDS, including boosting immune system function, increasing white blood cell counts, activating disease-fighting Natural Killer cells, reducing anxiety and harmful stress-induced hormones, decreasing swelling and inflammation, and increasing blood flow.

Pastoral Care and Counseling                                                           The "Faith" Perspective
Pastoral care, chaplaincy services, and pastoral counseling are provided for persons living with and affected by HIV disease.  AAFH staff, interns, and volunteers are available to meet a wide array of the spiritual and emotional needs experienced by our clients and their loved ones.  AAFH's care and counseling services are spiritually aware, clinically competent, and medically informed.

Professional Training, Education, & Outreach       The Intersection of "Faith" and "Health"
AAFH serves local faith communities and the larger community by providing opportunities for person growth and development, HIV education and AIDS awareness, and volunteer service.  As a contextual education center, AAFH provides professional training, supervision, and service learning for seminary and other graduate students at institutions of higher education throughout metropolitan Atlanta.
